Hear what some of our student staff have to say about their experiences in The Triple Helix:

“I joined The Triple Helix because I wanted a way to keep myself accountable to the important issues going on in the world. In a very busy but good way, The Triple Helix has been more than I bargained for. I’m encouraged that so many other undergrads (of all disciplines, backgrounds, and time zones) are genuinely and earnestly interested in fueling this discussion about science & technology, society, and law. They are the reason The Triple Helix survives and thrives today, in a way that was beyond my imagination when I joined this organization. Trust me, you don’t want to miss out.” – Winnie Tsang, Senior Literary Editor (’05 – present), Johns Hopkins ‘08

“Though I joined The Triple Helix because I enjoyed talking & reading about science in society, and thought it would be great to do that as part of such a global, intelligent network, it was only after getting involved in The Triple Helix that I fully realised I had the potential to be an important contributor and leader of teams. It’s brought out a dynamic, ambitious, entrepreneurial side in me that I never really knew I had, and looks set to shape my career direction forever! I really appreciate the incredible variety of experiences in my time here, with science, academia, publishing, business & charity law, management and event organisation!” – Phil Bradley; Chief Operating Officer, Europe (’06-present), Chapter President (’05-’06); Oxford ‘08

“The Triple Helix is a great organization to be a part of. During my time here I’ve met a great number of talented and dedicated people. From the business side of things to the literary side of The Triple Helix, everyone does an excellent job making sure that everything runs smoothly. The structure of The Triple Helix makes it very easy to talk with anyone about anything, and you really get to know everyone, especially when we have our regional meetings. The Triple Helix is a place where smart, dedicated people get together and turn out a first-rate product.” – Kojo Minta; Senior Literary Editor (’05 – present); University of Pennsylvania ‘08

“It is often said that employers and graduate schools look for leadership from their potential employees and matriculants, but it is not always clear to students what that entails. Not all students are leaders, and not all organizations provide leadership opportunities…but this is where The Triple Helix excels—it is an organization that is composed of leaders, both in their community and on an international scale.” – Kalil Abdullah; Chapter President (’05-’07); Arizona State University ‘07

“The Triple Helix offers a truly incredible experience for our members. From writing and editing, to managing activity at one of the world’s top universities, to managing operations on a global scale, our students run the show. Such organizations, which have opportunities to improve communication, teamwork, and leadership in one package, are hard to find. The Triple Helix is unlike anything else I have been a part of.” – Akash Shah; Chapter President (’04-’06), Chief Operating Officer, North America (’06 – present); MIT ‘08

“The Triple Helix came at a great time in my college career. Here was a journal that not only allowed me to contribute, but wonderfully, allowed me to grow as a person. TTH gave me the chance to write about issues that I was passionate about and later, as an editor, gave me the chance to work alongside some of the brightest students in college today. In more ways than one, The Triple Helix gave me a fresh perspective of what truly interested me in terms of career and academics.” – Keith Loo; Features Editor (’05-present); UC Berkeley ‘08

“The Triple Helix has been one of the best experiences of my undergraduate career. I was able to gain leadership skills and become part of a network of other highly motivated undergraduates from all around the world. The skills and the confidence I gained as a leader of my chapter of The Triple Helix will aid me long after I graduate. As I plan to have a career in medicine and public health, The Triple Helix gave me the opportunity to explore the latest topics in science and technology. The Triple Helix is unique because there are so many different ways in
which one can be involved, whether through writing, editing, finance or marketing. The Triple Helix allows undergraduates to make connections with faculty and future and current business leaders and provides opportunities to gain skills that will last a lifetime.” – Anita Mazloom; Chapter President (’05-present); Brown ‘07

“The Triple Helix breaks down the distance barrier between undergraduate students who are passionate to involve themselves in a highly regarded publication and participate in a worthwhile cause. The most impressive aspect of The Triple Helix is two-fold for me; firstly that it allows me to step into a leadership position through it’s policy of talent-based promotion and secondly the ability for myself to network and meet bright undergraduate students from the top universities around the world and exchange ideas. The merits of The Triple Helix as an organization go far beyond this however, it provides a platform not only for those involved to have a direct hand in the evolution of the organization, but also the ability to leverage it’s growing reputation in pursuing worthwhile policy causes.” – Kym Huynh; Chief Operating Officer, Australia (’06-present); Melbourne ‘08

“The Triple Helix is not only a fusion of science, society and law, but it is also a wellspring of different experiences that undergraduates would be hard-pressed to find elsewhere. As a member of the organization, I had the opportunity to be a writer, a business associate and an editor. Each position offered me a different view of the professional world and a chance to learn the skills required for a successful career. My initiative was always rewarded, promoting my creativity in tackling new issues. I also learned valuable communication and leadership skills.
I regard the Triple Helix as a defining part of my college experience.” – Garrett Leonard; Senior Literary Editor (’06-present), graphics editor (’05-present), corporate relations associate (’05-’06), writer (’05-’06); Johns Hopkins ‘08

“To say that The Triple Helix is a great student organization would simply be an understatement. Just think about it; how many extra-curricular activities that you’ve joined allow you to network with students of high caliber in more than twenty top universities around the world? Which ones place you in an international corporation entirely run by undergraduates? When was the last time you had an onlinemeeting with people from four different continents across five different
time zones? Personally, there’s only one place I know - The Triple Helix!” – John Kerk; Chapter President (’05-present), Chief Operating Officer, Asia (’06-present); National University of Singapore ‘07

“The Triple Helix is an experience like no other in the world. In only two years, I have been privileged with opportunities to hone my technical writing skills, learn the process of journal publication, and develop as a leader in a rapidly-growing corporation. My fellow students in The Triple Helix have shown me why it has become such a prestigious international organization: They have the intelligence, discipline, and drive to become prominent leaders in medicine, politics, business, law, or any other field they choose. Thanks to The Triple Helix, I will graduate from college with invaluable personal and professional skills that cannot be taught in any classroom.” – Ernest (Ted) Gomez; Executive Director of Chapter Operations, North America (’05-present); University of Pennsylvania ‘08

“The organization gave me the opportunity to mature as an individual through hard work and dedication. During my time with the organization, I developed my leadership and interpersonal skills by directing and managing a truly global staff and enterprise. Professionally, I have used the abilities I developed at The Triple Helix in many other groups and situations. With my participation on the founding board of The Triple Helix, I worked on the founding board of two other organizations at Cornell. I used my experience in fundraising with The Triple Helix to help me as a treasurer for another group. Because The Triple Helix operates as a meritocracy, any undergraduate who remains diligent and dedicated to the success of the organization will find success for themselves as well.” – Erwin Wang; Executive Production Editor (’04 - ’06); Cornell ‘07
