Our Name

The triple helix structure is often associated with collagen, the most abundant protein in mammals. Collagen plays an important role in many animal functions. It is the main protein of connective tissue, bone, teeth, and cartilage; it strengthens blood vessels; its degradation leads to skin wrinkles; it is present in the cornea of the eye. Like collagen, science and technology have become an integral part of human life.

Science is the focal point of our organization, but science alone is insufficient for the progress of human society. Much like how collagen plays an important role in connective tissue, our organization focuses on connecting science and technology with other fields and perspectives.

Representing Science, Society, and Law, the three strands of The Triple Helix intertwine to form a structural unit that symbolizes our organization and journal. Not only does the complete triple helix structure describe the holistic approach we take on topics in science and technology, but like the discovery of the structure of collagen, it represents a pioneering endeavor into unchartered territories in our bold attempt to do the seemingly impossible.
